Arthritis Class

17th May, 2011

We can’t stop you getting old, but might stop you feeling it.

Hands-On Health Treatments have introduced a new arthritis programme in addition to the chiropractic, physiotherapy, sports therapy lifestyle programmes and pilates already offered within the clinics.

Following an initial patient assessment by one of our physiotherapists, the clinician will determine the appropriate programme for the patient’s individual needs. This will be a 6 week programme either supervised by a rehabilitation specialist within a group, or one-to-one personalised supervision depending on the patient’s specific requirements

Degeneration of your joints begins without you knowing; it happens –slowly– to all of us. The general wear and tear of a lifetime results in changes to the bones and joints. Generally our bodies compensate for this and we feel little or no pain– even if the wear and tear is quite advanced. However, slight loss of proper movement in worn joints may cause nerve irritation and inflammation which could lead to pain.

Arthritic and joint pain
Arthritic pain or rheumatism are names normally given to the pain and stiffness resulting from wear and tear to your joints. These conditions can occur in any joint of your body, including your hip, knees and spinal vertebrae.
Other joint problems caused by wear and tear, leading to pain in the shoulder, knee, foot, hip and elbow may also respond to this programme of exercise.

The Programme
Degeneration of your joints cannot be reversed but this programme can help to improve muscle and joint function which in turn may help to reduce nerve irritation.
The course will provide you with opportunity to discuss your individual symptoms and set individual goals .
You will be given advice on healthier habits in your lifestyle, workplace or favourite sports, as well as tips on exercise diet and posture.
With this is programme we aim to getting patients bodies to function better and to help you enjoy a better quality of life.
